Simple Tomato Base

Makes: Enough for four 10inch pizzas

Until now, I've been making a quick and straightforward pizza base mix from various types of store-bought passata or pizza sauce and adding in some additional ingredients to enhance the flavour. That method is always acceptable but if you're after a quick and easy option but if you're prepared to spend a little bit more time, then here's a simple way to improve your pizza base sauce.

Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 1 Small Onion or Half a Large Onion
  • 400g Tin of Chopped Tomatoes

Optional Ingredients

  • Chilli Flakes
  • Basil

Method

Step 1

Take one small or half a large onion, finely chop it and saute it in a small saucepan until they have softened.

Step 2

Add the contents of a tin of chopped tomatoes, stir and bring to a low simmer. Allow the tomato and onion mixture to simmer down until it's a nice thick sauce.

Step 3 - Optional

Once the sauce has thickened a little, you can add in some optional ingredients to make a variety of different sauces.

Step 4

Let the mixture cool down, and then you're ready to go!

I would recommend starting this mixture first before you make your dough which gives the sauce time to thicken before it's needed.

That's it enjoy your new pizza base making.
